Culver City, CA | New York, NY
Based in Los Angeles and New York, WHY was founded by Kulapat Yantrasast in 2004 and has established itself in the international design vanguard for completing widely-acclaimed projects that serve the arts, communities, and the environment. The 30+ person practice is structured as an “Ecology of Disciplines”—four workshops focusing on ideas, buildings, grounds and objects—to approach projects from multiple angles resulting in holistic, sustainable designs.
Much like we like our projects to be unique, our office is also diverse with a mix of genders, races, ethnicities, interests and styles. Every person brings an added dimension to the studio environment and we enjoy a truly collaborative working methodology.
Completed projects include: Speed Art Museum; Pomona College Studio Art Hall; Grand Rapids Art Museum; Harvard Art Museums Galleries; Kordansky Gallery; L&M Arts; Samurai exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Ongoing projects include: the Asian Art Museum expansion in San Francisco, a large mixed-use development in the LA Arts District, a ground-up youth arts & culture center in the Bay Area, several gallery/art spaces, private houses and numerous competitions/special projects.
