Sima Shahverdi is a practicing architect and researcher with interest in exploring kinetic architecture and robotic technology. Her goal is to enhance the human being’s life experience through integration of robotics into built environments rather than simply using robotics for sophisticated fabrication and manufacture. Sima has completed her post-graduated study in Architecture and Robotic, Under Greg Lynn at UCLA, SUPRASTUDIO program. She holds a master’s degree in Architecture from University of Tehran, and a bachelor in Architecture from Art University of Tehran. During her professional research and study she has been affiliated with various industries as of Aerospace Boeing factory, Bot & Dolly Design Studio, IDEAS Robotic Lab at UCLA, Cirque Du Soleil to name a few. Her Swiss Army Knife project is recognized as one of the most practical futuristic robotic proposals for rethinking the Boeing industry.

Sima has worked with interdisciplinary design firm “wHY Architecture” for the award winning project “Ross Povilion and gardens” international competition reimagining Edinburgh’s west princes street gardens. She has worked with “Kevin Daly Architects” for the award winning UCLA Basketball Practice Facility” and Dennis Gibbens Architects, a Santa Monica based design firm. She has taught architectural freehand sketching in Iran for 3 years after she ranked 1rst in nationwide architecture master’s degree examination among 9400 participants on 2010.

Coming from Iran, Sima brings a unique international breadth to her work. “Vault Belt” a proposal for desert colony ranked 3rd place winner in d3 natural systems competition in 2013. The team project “Amethyst cluster”, a multi-positional system of subassemblies was shot by discovery channel at the IDEAS campus of UCLA in 2014. Sima and Alireza Asgaripour are the authors of “About Architectural Sketching” which was published on 2012. She has also contributed in the book “Functiona of style” by Farshid Mousavi in 2012.

Sima’ works has been disseminated worldwide in various exhibitions and websites. Currently, she is a designer and researcher in R&D of Space Factory based in New York. She continues to be professionally active in the field of kinetic architecture, smart cities of future, robotic fabrication technologies and interaction design. She is also the vocalist of the persian music band "Koubeh".

I have worked with interdisciplinary design firm “wHY Architecture” for the award winning project “Ross Povilion and gardens” international competition re-imagining Edinburgh’s west princes street gardens. Additionally, I have put together construction documents for R-Gallery renovation project located in Tribeca, new york.

While working in KDA, for each project, I was responsible for different phases such as conceptual design, design development, building simulation, site visits, and meeting with clients. In addition, I got more experienced in zoning, building codes, professional physical model making and photography, graphical presentation, quick and accurate 2D and 3D drawing, and façade parametric design and detailing. UCLA’s Mo Ostin Basketball Center which is now in construction phase, and Berkeley Global Campus (recognized in AIA and “LA next LA”) are among the projects that I collaborated in KDA.

During this time, I was involved in a variety of projects including sport centers, retail stores, residential complexes, single-family houses, and architecture competitions. While working in DGA, I mainly focused on schematic design, design development, and construction documents in different scales mostly for single-family houses in Los Angeles. A two-story house in 27th Ave, Venice beach was one out of several renovation projects that I collaborated in DGA.

I worked as an entry-level designer in Hacker Kitchen (German-made) in Tehran, Iran. I had the opportunity of designing the outdoor showroom for their new site.

during my undergraduate studies, I worked in Eivan Pars consulting engineers in Karaj, Iran, where I was involved in schematic design, collaborating with presentation team, meeting with clients, construction documents, and mainly focused on façade schematic design, resulting in the construction of five building façades in different cities in Iran.
