FLATIRON LOFT, NYC

We recently completed the design development phase for a 4100 square foot loft renovation in the Flatiron district, New York City. Herewith we would like to proudly present the progress renderings to a larger audience.
Recognizing the needs for a modern family life, our team developed a new floorplan with additional 2 en suite bedrooms and a large master bedroom, including a generous dressing area. Because of the technical and economic reasons, the kitchen is kept at its original location as a central spot of the house, however paired with a cozy family room with intimate low seating area that allows for immediate engagement in cooking ceremonies or spontaneous movie-nights and screenings. The brighter enfilade of spaces facing the street side houses more formal living functions, like a library, abundance of seating for entertainment and an inviting gas fireplace nook. Fluidly connecting areas are only visually screened and better proportioned by furniture – a large Italian dining table and custom shelving for object display ensure a smooth transition into the dining space.
The central space with the columns is harmoniously zoned and enclosed with a storage unit at the end, creating a warm and calm backdrop to the living space with its oak paneling. In addition it serves as a screening unit for a flexible, multifunctional room, which can be used for recreation, home office, or guest-room with a sleeper couch.
We envisioned an equally laid out fish-bone parquet in light oak for the space, to render it more fluid and spacious. A Smart lighting concept with modern LED allows us to create a pleasant atmosphere and gives us the opportunity to change to a dramatic light settings if required.
The elegant and sophisticated lifestyle of the family is translated into rich materials throughout the apartment. All window-sills of the industrial space are re-defined according to function and clad with Pietra Serena stone in most exposed spaces. The master bathroom is entirely lined in White Naxos with a freestanding bathtub carved out of the same material. A bold statement in the apartment is the green Verde Foresta stone, which we use twice in the space featuring important volumes in the kitchen and at the entry.
