PROGRAM: New construction of an ADU adjacent to an existing single-family home

SIZE: 651 SF 

PROJECT NARRATIVE: Ryder Design designed this ADU on the site of an existing garage, negotiating the complicated hillside site by introducing retaining walls and terraces that both connect the unit to the main house while simultaneously establishing privacy for the new building. The contemporary unit features a large living room which opens onto the pool terrace below, a full kitchen and a bedroom above with access to a private work-out terrace open to the sky. The rich-textured and dark-colored material palate consisting of stained wood, venetian plaster and dark metals compliments the large glass openings that welcome the afternoon sun and the views to the valley beyond.
