Columbia, SC
Municipal Association of South Carolina
Completion Date
2000
Project Budget $8.5 million
Inspired by its adjacent turn-of-the-century brick retail buildings, this five story, 60,000 square foot class “A” office for the Municipal Association of South Carolina is a thoroughly modern building that features a skin of careful brick detailing and historically derived proportions. The polychromatic scheme uses color to enhance recesses and accents that visually increase the depth of the masonry yet employ conventional cavity wall standards. Contrasting with the brick are metal and glass awnings that protect generous glazed openings at the sidewalk level, a gesture to the pedestrian oriented character of the street. Parking for 225 cars is provided by a parking deck located to the rear of the building.
