As the Managing Architect at SBA Archiects, Gregory led all design and production services including coordination for this Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance Facility Expansion comprised of a 75,000 square foot shop expansion and upgrades to 30,000 square feet of existing shop space. The project was required in order for VTA to accommodate the servicing of 50 new trolleys increasing their fleet by 2-fold. The core expansion was an infill building between the existing shop building & the existing Daily Inspection building. The expansion included 3 new servicing tracks with 2 servicing bays each. Because their new fleet is a new low-floor design, all of the engine & major mechanical equipment on the vehicle roof required an extensive & intricate network of catwalks, tool lifts and an overhead crane. This required many modifications to the existing catwalk system as well.
