The Oakland Airport Sort Facility Expansion included 4 project areas; Modifications to the Existing Sort Building, a 250,000 SF Sort Facility Expansion Building connected to the existing building via a bridge, an Emergency Power Generation Building, and a Personnel Security Screening Building. The Existing 212,000 SF existing building included an expansion of 6,000 SF to the second floor by infilling existing floor openings to accommodate new equipment. The expansion building required extensive planning and coordination with the US Customs & Border Patrol as well as the sort equipment design-build contractor. The original design alternative pictured herein was eventually downsized to 200,000 SF in 2010. The 7,500 SF Emergency Power Building is a Pre-Engineered Metal Building accommodating 4 12kV generators, day—tanks, and an electrical substation. The Security Screening Building was also a Pre-Engineered Metal Building.
