The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), has won the competition for a major expansion to the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ). The 12,000m2 new building, a cascade of three overlapping boxes at the juncture of downtown Quebec City and the historic Battlefields Park, will be OMA’s first built project in Canada.

although i do like what i see here, I always thought of OMA as an office driven by creative investigation - i am worried that they are relying too much on their current process of design - stacking boxes of functionality - i would've expected oma to push this project further -

There is currently a nice old solid monastery on this site. This monastery is an integral part of Quebec's history. The monastery is going to be destroyed to build this modern structure instead.
The current Art museum is located in a park where there is TONS of free space. That free space could be used to build an extension, there is absolutely no reason to destroy a beautiful architecturally significant building to build this. The problem is not the proposed project in itself, it is it's location. It doesn't make sense... In a word, this project = FAIL
Well, at the end of the day, it is quite an insignificant piece of architecture.
