from the images posted on nz herald, design number 1/8 and 5 seem to have "some" merit...
but i generally agree with mike lee's overall perception of the entries, and sheds in question...and hope revisions take place...sounds like it could be a really exciting project...
As one involved in some of the more confidential aspects of some of the designs - what you see here is not necessarily the whole picture.
Bear in mind that form the outset the competition brief was flawed and limiting - 15m height limit [to avoid tripping the dreaded NZ planning process meaning extra time] and NZ$47m total budget for the transformation of the entire wharf.
There are some schemes and aspects that have not been seen and that go beyond what was originally proposed in a positive way...
diabase...i hope this latest development would make them revisit some of the flawed/limiting aspects of the competition...
it does sound like it could be a fantastic project...
You would hope so simples, but the key factor here is time. It has to be complete and up and running by August 2011. A final decision is due mid november, meaning documentation and construction has to start asap.
On top of that, Auckland is about to consolidate the 6 or so area councils into 1 "supercity" along the same lines as Toronto. Thats due end of 2010.
Its all very tricky here at the moment.
