Since 2011, the budget for Apple’s Campus 2 has ballooned from less than $3 billion to nearly $5 billion, according to five people close to the project who were not authorized to speak on the record. If their consensus estimate is accurate, Apple’s expansion would eclipse the $3.9 billion being spent on the new World Trade Center complex in New York, and the new office space would run more than $1,500 per square foot—three times the cost of many top-of-the-line downtown corporate towers. — businessweek.com

Too much money for not very much!
If they want to spend $5bn on an HQ, fine. It's a crime that so much public money has been wasted, in part, on Calatrava's ego.
Apple has been hoarding cash for much too long. I hope Foster takes them for twice as much. Releasing all that mullah into general money pool can only help, no matter how simpleton-ic the architecture actually is.
^yes
Totally agree with Rusty,
Also, I have a feeling that we are seeing a bit of the skyscraper index at a corporate level. Like most cult leaders (or, if you're a Mac: Alexander the Great), it sounds like Jobs was so domineering over the whole process that not many other people were trained for complete control of the company save maybe Jonathan Ive.
