Very sad. Fay Jones was the first "famous" architect I ever heard lecture, some 15+ years ago. He seemed completely suprised and stunned when I asked him for his autograph, but was happy to oblige. Few architects Ive meet since match his modesty, humilty, and decency.
(He also told a funny story about how a house he was designing for the owner of the local five-and-dime starting going over budget. His client asked him what to do, and so Jones said "well, you will just have to buy another store," so his client bought the five-and-dime in the next town over. The client's name: Sam Walton. Anyways, it was amusing 15 years ago, although Im not sure how much to believe that story, nor am I sure I want to blame Fay Jones for the origins of Wal-Mart.)
