While Mayne explains his soft and sensous design for Paris' tallest office building - the Phare Tower - as part of a natural evolution of his work, critics wonder if he's lost his edge. But still aimed to provoke, "I’m institutionalizing my studio and building a sophistication,” he contends.
“I fought violently for the autonomy of architecture.” [...] “It’s a very passive, weak profession where people deliver a service. [...] Architecture with any authenticity represents resistance. Resistance is a good thing.” - More in the New York Times.

the architecture of resistance enjoys working with people? what is he resisting these days? instituions, no. commercialization, no. why the faux-position of resistance. whay can't he just he really enjoys making money and working on big projects and making work that is better than hi early resistance-driven work? this is why architects look so silly-in the NYTimes our Pritzker Prize winners endlessly contradict and trivialize what they say and do.
