Swedish furniture company IKEA, has collaborated with Oregon architectural firm Ideabox, to launch its first line of prefabricated houses in the U.S., named the “Aktiv.” The IKEA-themed dwelling is a one-bedroom home centered around space-saving furniture and products. Pretty dang cool. At the price point its certainly not stealing potential clients for residential projects, and it looks decent for being what, 140 a square foot?
If you were entertaining guests, they would have to pass through the bedroom to go to the bathroom. It's easy to be a critic....
prefab is blowing up around the world. it's a bigger deal than people realize. i know its been done before but it think this time we will see a greater impact.
it looks like the only true Ikea component is the kitchen...shouldn't the walls, roof, etc be a kit of parts that are assembled like their furniture and cabinets?

...just read the article...it's an ideabox home with an Ikea interior. but still, Ikea should come out with it's own flat pak home.
