Interesting article in the International Herld Tribune about the construction workers in Dubai.
...As he boards a bus to his construction site every morning but Friday, Kumaran said, he looks up at Dubai's skyline of gleaming high-rises with sadness.
"I wish the rich people would realize who is building these towers," Kumaran said, flanked by his friends. "I wish they could come and see how sad this life is."

thanks paul ..for bringing it up !! .. i see this first hand even on my site here !!
sad...but somehow i'm not surprised
Originally I saw the article in the New York Times. I hope the guys of SOM had a chance to read it. Makes you wonder as architects how responsible we are about the methods our clients use to realize their projects. Or the legitimacy of our clients, last Monday in L.A. Koolhass was telling an audience how he has been criticized for doing the CCTV tower for the Chinese government. Also at the end of the conference he was showing a massive skyscraper in Dubai next to SOM's Tower, that is going to rotate 360 degrees on it's own axis. I guess more cheap migrant labor force?

yup .... and then there just thrown out of the country once their health is affected ...
on a sad note :-
one of the laborours, working on my site, commited suicide last week, in one of the tunnels. hung himself, the poor guy. the rest of them are reluctant to work there now.
the other thing is that, the architects are not responsible for these events.. its the contracting firm to be blamed !!
* they're
