It's not just in the eye. So the musical quality of space, a scientific interest that I had, mathematics, geometry and the cosmos and at the same time, of course, the interest in making something, in making, you know, making buildings, architecture. — NPR
Apparently Libeskind was a guest on NPR's Diane Rehm Show today. Transcript here - I haven't listened to it yet, but even though I usually can't decipher what Libeskind is saying, I'm going to try.

ha my mom called me and told me she had listened to this and thought i might want to post
I did listen to it and Libeskind was downright straightforward compared to usual!
yeah very non-theoretical. i also liked his line re: a question about a watering down of his original design
"I don't think of it as my design...it is New York's city's design"
Libeskind and I had a nice talk 25 or so years ago when he came to speak at SCI-Arc. His presentation was around the time that deconstructionist architecture was in vogue, and a lot of slides were on the Berlin Jewish Museum, and references to Mies.
Afterwards we hung and talked. We grew up in the same neighborhood in The Bronx and we talked about stick-ball, candy-stores, Poe Park and that kinda chat and also his also going to The Bronx School of Science, the prestigious high school of choice for smart Jewish kids. He said that going there nurtured his architectural development, via science, and I think for him it all stared in high school.

I have always greatly enjoyed hearing and reading what this man has to say. He's inspiring in his realization that architecture isn't about the buildings, its about the people.
