is conducting a housing design competition for 6 parcels in Hayes Valley as part of the Market/Octavia Boulevard redevelopment plan put forth by Better Neighborhoods, probably the city's best planning program. After the Loma Prieta earthquake 15 years ago and the removal of the Central Freeway artery that ran through the neighborhood, Hayes Valley saw a brand new open space emerge and the opportunity to transform this area into a model of community-based planning. A site tour and briefing is set for March 19th, and all design submissions are due on June 1st. David Baker, Teddy Cruz, Enrique Norten sit on the jury.
