Musk [...] said on Tuesday he’s aiming to create a city called “Starbase” in Texas, teasing a new idea on Twitter as his space company expands its footprint elsewhere in the state.
That footprint, first planted in the Lone Star state over a decade ago, is growing rapidly under Musk’s dogged effort to build a “gateway to Mars.”
— The Verge
Nearly a decade after launching the world's first commercial launchpad in Boca Chica near Brownsville, South Texas, SpaceX/Tesla/Hyperloop/Boring Company entrepreneur Elon Musk has shared a grand, and fashionably vague, announcement of a new urban stepping stone for his ambitious Mars colonization endeavor.
From thence to Mars,
And hence the Stars.

Musk value signaling again. You could use your billions to improve the world in ways beyond any imagination. Instead you're a selfish neoliberal who was born on third constantly acting like you hit a triple.
Might just be me but I'm pretty sick of hearing about Elon Musk *and* about space.
This is surely accidental. SURELY.
Sneaky every time I see the thumbnail of this image on the front page all I see is hardons aiming toward space. Which is accurate, actually.
Do nothing complaining about oil dependence: “yay you go!!!”
Guy who actually produces great electric car: “soooo overated”
I don't see any electric cars in this article.
Space x is making huge technological advances. Elon Musk gets people butt hurt because he demonstrates the superior power of capitalism to innovate and solve problems.
That's not why.
Then what’s the issue? I really don’t get it. The guys companies are doing very cool work and research into many forms of transportation, from space travel, to the the hyperloop, to electric vehicles, to automated vehicles...It just seems like some people drink too much hatorade.
Or they have a problem with a private industry demonstrating superior ability to solve problems.
The libertarian critique seems to be opposite...that he takes govt subsidies and cheap loans...but unlike many other private industry that also does this, he’s not putting into a profit machine. Space x has a terrible ROI in his own lifetime.
superior power of capitalism to innovate and solve problems.
this reads like north korean-style propaganda
Difference is I don’t need propaganda to prove the point...history is enough...commie nations like NK and China do because their state constrained industries lack innovation and creativity and have to rely on stealing intellectual property..
“You could use your billions to improve the world in ways beyond any imagination.“
That’s what he’s working on. Next
Musk will find himself in the wilderness of SE Texas where no one wants to live. The creative energy is still being born in California where his competitors are.
He definitely "moved" to Texas for tax reasons, and he'll maintain a "residence" there. But I'd bet Tesla stock that he'll spend most of his time elsewhere. You'd be surprised how many rich folks who "live" in Texas spend most of their time elsewhere.
Texas is beautiful and way more livable that CA. The exodus is proof
Can't think of anywhere in Texas that would be described as beautiful, and the weather is grotesque - everywhere.
There's plenty of beauty in Texas if you know how to look.
