Richard Branson's Virgin Hyperloop endeavor appears to be picking up some momentum with recent announcements of the first human passenger test and plans for a $500 million Hyperloop Certification Center in West Virginia.
Now the company unveiled a new concept video that adds a bit more visual detail to the vision's passenger experience.
Virgin Hyperloop worked with Bjarke Ingels Group not only on the design of their XP-2 pods (in collaboration with Kilo Design) but also on the planned passenger portals.
Seattle-based design studio Teague was hired to create the pod interiors. "We leveraged decades of experience designing how people and things move across various modalities—taking some of the best aspects from aviation, rail, automotive, and even hospitality to create a new and better passenger experience," explained Teague CEO & President John Barratt.
"Recessed seat wells provide a greater sense of space, while the raised
aisle is a touch of the unexpected and unique. Bands of greenery and
wood textures subvert the aesthetic of typical mass transit materials
with something optimistic and fresh. All lighting in the pod—including
the unassuming information displays—are dynamic and adjust based on
traveler activity and journey milestones."
While the regulatory future of planned hyperloop systems around the world remains to be worked out, project leaders aim to achieve safety certification by 2025 and commence commercial operations in 2030.
