Michael Riscica, the founder of Young Architect has created a new kind of architecture conference. One that is geared specifically for the emerging generation of students and professionals. From his past experiences participating and speaking at architecture conferences, Riscica has identified some common characteristics that he feels need to be improved. In his view, traditional conferences tend to focus too much on lecturing from the stage and not enough on engagement and interaction. They do not typically focus on the next generation of the profession, and products and economics can sometimes grab too much of the focus. Riscica believes that an engaging conference should be "harnessing the power of the minds of the audience to see how we can serve our profession and our communities."
As emerging professionals rise to positions of power, preparation, mentorship, and growth become indispensable characteristics to embrace. The Young Architect Conference aims to address these areas. There will be "keynotes in the morning, workshops in the afternoon, and parties at night." Workshops will operate on three different tracks: one track geared toward students, another for professionals in their first 10 years of Licensure, and another for professionals who are not yet licensed. The Conference website lists the dynamic range of workshops and speakers that will be present.
"Everything from construction documents, licensure, technology, communication, marketing, professionalism, the workplace, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Baby boomers are retiring and millennials are starting their own firms and businesses. Everything about how we work and live is drastically different than it was 20 years ago," Riscica writes. The industry is evolving and so are its members.
The conference will start on August 23, 2019 and conclude on the 25th.

Anyone from Archinect going to be live-blogging or reporting in, from this?
Sean will be on the ground, in addition to running a workshop at the conference.
I was looking to attend, but ultimately won't be able to. I'm curious to see how much influence this has on the profession over time. I hope it is a smashing success and there are more to come. Unfortunately, I have to watch from the sidelines this time.
