The former NFL player is standing on the show floor of ICFF, where his third line of furniture for Bernhardt Design is making its debut [...] Crews says that he’s finding his voice as a designer and finding new opportunities to express himself. The line—dubbed Becca, after Crew’s wife Rebecca King-Crews—consists of a sofa and armchairs, which can be upholstered with any Bernhardt Design leather or fabric. (The collection can also be custom upholstered at the buyer’s request.) — Metropolis
Celebrities entering the field of architecture and design is nothing new. From Brad Pitt pitching his thoughts on the new LACMA design to Kanye West designing homes and visiting a famed Los Angeles architecture school, celebrities find ways to become a part of the profession. However, before the glitz and glam of Hollywood, many celebrities had other passions and pursuits before entering show business. With the news of Terry Crews actively pursuing his career in furniture design he may be the one celebrity we wouldn't want to dismiss.
In Crews' case, the former NFL player and actor is not new to the art scene. Before his rise to fame in athletics and acting Crews was an avid illustrator and had a passion for fine arts as a child. He pursued art in college when he received an art scholarship at Western Michigan University. He has frequently shared his experience with art, "I had an art scholarship before I got a football scholarship. One of my first jobs in entertainment, I did courtroom sketches my freshman year of college, for the local TV station. I mean, art is everything for me."
It is safe to say Crews' venture in design is not a publicity stunt or a result of celebrities believing "they can do it all." After joining Bernhardt Design, Crews has been able to express his ideas and collaborate with several names in the industry. With three furniture collections under his belt, his recently debuted collection "Becca" pulls inspiration from his wife and specific criticism with modern design and its lack of comfort. "In my mind," he explains, "the furniture should feel like a warm hug. It is voluptuous, its sexy, its curvy, there are no hard lines to it, and it's very comfortable, which is a new thing for a lot of modern furniture."
With his expertise and credentials in the design world expanding, Crews' focus in pursuing his passions and involvement in design is nothing short of serious. A man of many talents, Crews, continues to pursue his passions in learning and contributing in the world of furniture design. Returning to his roots in art Crews shares, "A mistake has been made in these disciplines," he says, referring to acting and design, "everything is either/or, and I have chosen to rid myself of those words. Everything is 'and.' I will do film, and television, and hosting, and furniture."
The thing I like is that he actually seems to understand furniture and you can tell that these are his drawings (he's an incredible artist / illustrator), the company isn't just using his name for attention (though they're doing that, too). I have a degree in product design and I have to say, his stuff is on par with the rest of the game.

if there was on celebrity I’d like to chill with and have a beer it would be this guy. He’s such a funny and upbeat dude.
And...damn surprisingly nice furniture.

Every time Kanye West is mentioned as "a designer" I want to barf.
