Kanye West has made a confusing return to Twitter this month. During his recent spree, the rapper has doubled down on his support of Donald Trump, praised the right-wing commentator Candace Owens, and—in a move that would seem to be at odds with the first two—referred to Parkland shooting survivor Emma González as his hero.
Amidst his Twitter-ing, West took a quick break yesterday to visit the Southern California Institute of Architecture, where he met with Owens and fellow right-winger and Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk. There, the three walked through the school's Spring Show (which is open to the public), looked at some student work, and learned about desalination. West even took second to tweet about his visit and shout out the work of M.Arch I student Ashley Hastings.
Donald Trump Jr. also got involved, tweeting out his delight at West hanging out with his pals.
Woah, looks like my pals @realcandaceO and @charlieKirk11 hanging with @kanyeWest yesterday. This should be interesting! 🤔 pic.twitter.com/a57WvclmCh

Though the reason for their visit is currently unknown, West has long been a champion of architecture. In 2013, he expressed interest in pursuing the field in an interview with BBC Radio and shortly thereafter, surprised GSD students with a visit, where he gave out free tickets to his show and delivered a manifesto on architecture.
Can we get to the hidden bottom line and take into account that Kanye is trying to develop property? And can then can we speculate as to why he visited sci-arc (and before it gets mentioned- the GSD visit was by invitation- that’s different set of speculations)?

And this flaming dipshit is news here because ... ?
Oh, wait. He believes the world can be architected.
How else are we to beat cancer?
I remember when he visited the GSD I thought it was cute and felt like any press that shows famous culture makers interested in architecture is good for the profession. I don't feel that way now.
Is that because it's Kanye, and not, say, Brad Pitt?
Zing.
Fame is a fickle friend, Kanye. Celebrity is as celebrity does.
"Is that because it's Kanye, and not, say, Brad Pitt?"
Um, yes.
Desalination huh? Still liking those fish sticks!.
"Kanye West has made a confusing return to Twitter"
He is predictable. He likes to get on the headlines right before releasing new music or an album.
I think it's great that he's into architecture, more people should be...it's a wonderful field that impacts people's everyday life and well being.
Sciarc aint architecture, its fantasy garbage. Like Kanye.
Looks like architecture to me:
https://issuu.com/ashleymorgan...
not a single dimension or scale reference, no notes of materials or context, in 108 pages of cartoons. You're right, looks LIKE architecture, but it's something else. EDIT, sorry, there's notes and dimensions for the 6' lamp, good job.
Most Sciarc graduates I work with have a SOLID learning curve when they get to the real world. Not worth the fee.
You don't need those JLC for it to be architecture, my god what a narrow and restrictive view of what architecture is/can be. What do you mean doc, with not worth the fee? Those real world things are so much easier to learn and pick up, just ask archinect :) critical thinking and using your imagination on the other hand...that's a different story.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zxwfDlhJIpw Watch this video before you speak people. Kanye is a good dude who is being misrepresented by the media because he is speaking unity and empowerment...which is a direct threat to two headed snake in Washington.
no, he's just an idiot with money http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-43970903
and btw, he supports and would love to be in bed with one of the snakes you mention here
For the first time in my life I’m seeing the far left as a greater threat than the far right. I’m not sure if the mainstream media is intentionally misconstruing his words, or if they are just dumb. I am against just about everything Trump stands for, but Kanye never once said that he agrees with any of Trumps policies. He simply implied that demonization, hate, and identity politics is not a solution to anything. He spoke about love and unity. His “400 years” statement was also taken out of context. Bad choice of words, but that’s not what he meant. He was clearly speaking about the present state of mind that can be overcome. He acknowledged that racism still exists, but challenged people to create a dialogue and mindset that focuses on the future rather than the past. I’m pretty sure thats a positive and productive message. Agree with him or not, the level of hate he’s getting is crazy. The left is also exposing its racist undertones. His blackness is in question because he has a different opinion....as if all black people should fall in line with the same ideas. Whether or not you agree with someone, their racial makeup should never be used as a way to tie them down to where you think they should be. In a world where sound bites rule the media, we all need to take a little time for due diligence before jumping on with an opinion.
I would love to have the bullshit translator you have in your head, god bless you.
Watch the interview JLC. It’s long but I think your opinion will change. He’s a weird and unique guy. That’s ok. He even talks some architecture towards the end. I’m not saying I agree with him, just saying that his opinion is not deserving of the demonized it’s evoked. He is not perfect. That’s ok. Maybe he’s a little nuts. That’s ok too. He doesn’t deserve the blanket hate and condemnation he’s receiving. If you bother to try and understand his perspective you’ll find that he’s “sampling” trumps shit. He’s doing what mc’s do. He’s choosing bits of what to use and what not to use. He’s taking something with a negative connotation and trying to own it and spin it. In his opinion that’s the tactic that will bring on change. His intentions are not malicious imo.
You just have to try and understand his perspective. He got somewhere that is really hard to get to. He didn’t get there by adopting a victim mentality. He sees that as a psychological prison that is more oppressive in 2018 than any institutional racism that may exist. He’s trying to inspire others based on what he has experienced worked for himself. That’s all there is to it. Agree or disagree. He
*He is saying what he feels he needs to say. That’s ok.
I don't think he's malicious in the slightest, but merely confused. That whole God complex will mess with your head.
Our society is so judgmental and expects people to say the right thing all of the time....as of saying the right thing is an accurate reflection of the mind and heart.
We are all Confused. The universe is unknowable.
I don't expect anything from Kanye, but I do expect a lot better from our President. We can't pretend his behavior isn't strange. Maybe this is what Kanye finds attractive, like when he said slavery was a choice. When you crave attention, I guess you'll say anything.
Trump is a complete wannabe dictator. Yes his behavior is strange. But style over substance is what he likes. That’s my criticism of Kanye and the people criticizing him. It’s my criticism of the left and right. The substance isn’t too different across the aisle, it’s the tone and style that differs. This is why the cultural/identity divisions are being so heavily reinforced by both sides...it’s the only platform on which to establish a base. It’s a false dichotomy. Take a look at how bi-partisan War has become. In a time when calling a country a “shit hole” evokes more outrage than carpet bombing one, a little disruption to the status quo is needed.
Frankly, style over substance is my criticism of architecture as well.
A two party dictatorship must establish an illusion of choice to establish a “voluntary prison”. To reinforce that illusion the “sides” need to be in a constant state of disagreement. When a person seeks to bridge that divide, we almost always see a reaction that is hyperbolic and aggressive. The individual is a threat to that dichotomy. Identity politics is happening on the left and right. A better term is political herding. The “white lash” that got trump elected was partly due to identity politics of whites. The anti Mexican sentiment is rooted in identity politics. The sjw madness on campus is attached to identity politics. It’s all bullshit man. The real issues that used to divide the parties are being closed into the box of bi-partisanship like war, privacy rights, etc.
jla-x, you got nothing better to do?
I can’t stop watching videos on this...it’s so interesting...Ozzy had to bite the head off a dove...now just tweets and words work twice as well...so much easier these days to piss people off...
jla-x, I have no idea what left you are talking about. Maybe you are putting liberals and leftists in the same basket? As a leftist myself, we don't really talk about this kind of garbage you mention. We are interested talking about the fight for workers' rights, human rights, fair housing, equality in front of the law, environment, education, universal health, equal pay, racism, militaristic aggression, critical thinking and other issues concerning real people. Kanye West, his periphery, and his actions you are mentioning here don't worth our time and struggle.
Orhan, that’s because you are an old school leftist I guess. I’m talking about the identity politics crowd, and the media reaction that this Kanye thing is getting. Who cares? I agree, but the people going nuts over this seem to care. The question is why? The left and right tribalism I’m seeing developing over the last decade or so is troubling. I hope leftists like yourself can distance from this nonsense so that real debate can happen. Watch that video and then look at how media is twisting his words. No one should be looking to Kanye for politics or history lessons, but the real reason there is such a reaction is because he’s talking about “free thought” and individualism (even if he’s a moron) and that not all blacks have to be democrats. This goes against their goal of racial and political herding. Does the dem party or any other deserve the blind loyalty of the entire black population? I think not. Shit, not too long ago Hillary’s emails showed this shit ...
https://www.google.com/amp/www.nydailynews.com/amp/news/politics/erica-garner-rips-clinton-camp-emails-father-death-article-1.2847478
The reason this expectation of party loyalty (based on group identity) is bad is because the “sides” feels no need to compete for the vote...A recipe for political stagnation...
We are reaching the ends of crazy. Don’t know how much further it can go. Next, they are going to ban chop sticks...pizza will still be ok...Lol.
.
Cultural appropriation says architecture is for white people! Does Kanye have permission to jack it from us???
jla-x...I tried to follow your thread but...whoa...let me know where you're getting your weed 'cause I wanna visit that crazy land you're coming from...
Can you elaborate beyond the ad hominem?
This story is just priceless.
This fucking idiot. I guess he is missing the Dragon Blood from Trump. Oh wait, he can probably get it from the stupidity that they call Sciarc.
Guess what Im trying to say is that the crap being produced at Sciarc is pretty much the same as the garbage that comes out of Trump.
Glad we got this cleared up.
This should be proof:
https://pitchfork.com/news/kan...
Why Trump and Kanye can't be "brothers"? Who are you to judge them, just let them be.
Proof that money turns cerebral matter to shit.
Can we get to the hidden bottom line and take into account that Kanye is trying to develop property? And can then can we speculate as to why he visited sci-arc (and before it gets mentioned- the GSD visit was by invitation- that’s different set of speculations)?
Yes, Sciarc is one of the best places to visit when developing property hahahahahah. hahahahhaha.
do you think he can read these posts on this forum?https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/can39t-read-me-nothing/
He learned everything he knows from Sarah Palin.
trump is president
So that's a yes.
Slavery was (is) a choice.
???????
No, obviously that’s not what he was saying. The low IQ media ran with it though, because if even 5% of the black population leaves the democratic “mental plantation” they will be finished forever. He was talking about mental “slavery” as an after effect of actual physical slavery. Terrible choice of words on his part, but I assume he was referring to the constant state of depression and victimhood a large portion of the community is psychologically controlled and burdened by...this is perpetuated by media and their dem overlords who only care about herding voters...It’s time for people to wake up. Neither party gives a shit about anyone. We the people united behind a ideal of individuality, liberty, equality of opportunity, and autonomy from the state is the greatest threat to power...it disrupts their herding efforts on both sides of the ideological authoritarian spectrum as well as the corporate vampires that benefit from it. The alt-right assholes and the libtard assholes are using the same tactics of divide and concur. Same shit different day. Time for a revival of classical liberalism, skepticism, and political atheism...As it is today, MLK, Fredrick Douglas, etc would be classified as “darlings of the alt-right” by the neo-Marxist’s who’ve infiltrated the American left.
