While the school district had tried repeatedly in court to stop Metro from building the subway underneath the high school’s campus, Korbatov’s “Stop the Purple Threat” campaign takes a different approach: Nab the attention of President Donald Trump and try to convince him to order the withdrawal of federal funding from the Purple Line extension. — Curbed LA
School district administrators also helped BHHS students organize a districtwide “walkout” that took place today in protest of the Purple Line extension, whose second phase is already underway. Here are some interesting Twitter updates from LA Times transportation reporter Laura J. Nelson.
The issue is the old oil wells at the Beverly Hills oil field, which is directly under the high school - the last well on the campus only closed in 2017 and theyre in the process of capping the wells now. The district made millions off the wells for decades - but they claim there are unmapped wells and methane pockets that are at risk of exploding etc when they tunnel under. But seeing as they already finished the metro at the tar pits area, I'm sure the engineers are ready for these eventualities and will survey as necessary before starting anywhere near the school...
Its really rediculous to protest against this - as if people couldn't tunnel safely.
Further, they claim they're not against the subway, they just want the tunnel to run under the boulevard nearby and not under the school (previously proposed route btw) - but that puts the metro stop at Centurty City a few 100 meters from the development district (and we all know no one really wants to walk that far in LA).

Not In My Back Yard goes Not Under My High School.
NUMHS
The rich fucks of Beverly Hills need to take their collective heads out of their asses and let this happen.
How come these little shits don't get a Dylan Kleibold of their own?
Ken.... what the fuck. Thats way beyond the pale.
I know, I'm being a dick, I wanted to see if anyone remembered, and that these young people are busy protesting this, while other kids are focused on climate change, and safe schools.
Depressing as f*ck

I guess oil drilling is okay though.
