In anticipation of the launch party of the Archinect Outpost, our new retail initiative in Downtown LA’s Arts District, we present part 2 of the curated collection of small-run, independently published architecture periodicals we will have on display:
Intern has been providing a contemporary platform for the ongoing debate on internships and those affected by it, to express the current state of the creative industry from a relatively honest and critical perspective. All output is either by or about members of the creative youth, which is enabled by the publication’s open submissions policy and strong ties to creative industries.
LA+ (Landscape Architecture Plus) explores landscape architecture's interdisciplinary potential, bringing readers a rich collection of work from contemporary thinkers and designers in two lavishly illustrated issues annually. Within its pages are the thoughts of not only designers but also historians, artists, geographers, psychologists, ecologists, planners, scientists, philosophers, and many more.
Log is an independent journal on architecture and the contemporary city that presents criticism and commentary in a literary format designed to resist the seductive power of the image in media while identifying and elaborating the central concerns of architectural thinking and production today.
MASKS is an initiative that constructs a framework for young practitioners, theorists, and historians in design and its intersecting disciplines to foster youthful experimentation. MASKS addresses lingering interests to the architecture community while also discovering intersections with previously unrelated research.
MacGuffin magazine is a platform for fans of inspiring, personal, unexpected, highly familiar or utterly disregarded things, with each issue based around a single object. With issues focusing exclusively on items such as rope, cabinets, sinks, and other domestic items, MacGuffin is an indispensable resource for all those who want backstage information about the Life of Things.
Migrant Journal explores the circulation of people, goods, information as well as fauna and flora around the world and the transformative impact they have on space. As globalization benefits and paralyzes contemporary thought and practice, Migrant is a magazine that explores the relationship between circulatory elements, events, journeys, and spaces bound under the idea of ‘migration’ in all its forms.
MONU is a unique biannual international forum for architects, urbanists and theorists, working on urban topics. The publication focuses on the city in a broad sense, including its politics, economy, geography, ecology, its social aspects, as well as its physical structure and architecture. Many fields are covered by the magazine, brought together under the catch-all term “urbanism”.
–NESS is a printed magazine about architecture, life, and urban. The magazine addresses new ways of thinking about the built environment and singular phenomena. It is in continual dialogue with provocative designers, users, developers, and thinkers to expand and diversify conversations while also being open to new visions and ideas.
Archinect Outpost will be located at 900 E 4th St, right next to the A+D Museum, in the heart of Downtown LA's Arts District. If you haven't yet, RSVP here to reserve your spot!
