New York City is ready to kick off another eventful Archtober! Starting October 1, the city-wide festival has 31 days of exhibitions, lectures, conferences, films, tours, and other fun public events that celebrate the significance of architecture and design in everyday life.

Authenticity and Innovation Symposium | October 1
This symposium will discuss the questions raised from the Authenticity and Innovation exhibition. Listen to a conversation on topics like the relationship between preservation and gentrification, why new businesses like older buildings, and more
Insecurities: Tracing Displacement and Shelter | October 1 - January 22, 2017
This exhibition explores how contemporary architecture and design have addressed notions of shelter in light of global refugee emergencies. Once considered temporary settlements, refugee camps have become sites through which to examine how human rights intersect with the making of cities.
Public Art of Lower Manhattan | An Outdoor Gallery Hiding in Plain View | October 2
Join artist and activist Patrick Waldo on this walking tour where he'll point out award-winning public artworks by noteworthy talents that are constantly ignored, right on the streets of Lower Manhattan.
American Masters – Pedro E. Guerrero: A Photographer’s Journey | October 4
Take a moment at the Guggenheim to learn about the life and work of iconic architectural photographer Pedro E. Guerrero. This hour-long film screening will take place every Tuesday afternoon of the month.
Screening and Panel Discussion: Colonnade Park by Heidrun Holzfeind | October 5
The Austrian Cultural Forum presents a special screening of artist Heidrun Holzfeind’s film “Colonnade Park”, which explores Mies van der Rohe’s high-rise apartment buildings in Newark and the lives and stories of the people inhabiting it. Screening followed by a discussion with Heidrun Holzfeind, architecture historian Mariana Mogilevich, and MoMA curator Barry Bergdoll.
Parks of the Future in VR | October 6
Experience the parks of the future with IrisVR. Go on a virtual tour of several projects currently in progress by leading landscape architecture firms as well as the Landscape in Motion exhibition of Freshkills Park's complex history and ecology at Staten Island Arts’ Culture Lounge Gallery.
Building of the Day: New York State Pavilion | October 6

Gay Gotham: Art and Underground Culture in New York | October 7-March 26, 2017
This exhibition looks back at 20th-century history of NYC's queer creative networks—a series of artistic subcultures whose radical ideas had lasting effects on the mainstream.
Talking with Stone: The Noguchi Museum | October 8
Visit the revamped Noguchi Museum, designed by Sage and Coombe Architects, who will talk about the 15-year renovation project. Noguchi scholar Deborah Goldberg will then lead a gallery talk about Isamu Noguchi and the significance of his design work.
Building of the Day: Weeksville Heritage Center | October 8
Visit the Weeksville Heritage Center, a new Brooklyn-based museum building and urban design project based on the 19th-century houses of Weeksville, one of the first free African-American communities in the U.S. The building's design incorporates simple forms, strip windows, and glass passageways impacted by repeated African riffs.
