Archtober is back for another year! The New York City-wide festival has 31 days of exhibitions, lectures, conferences, films, tours, and other public activities that celebrate the significance of architecture and design in everyday life.

Global Migration, Refugees, and a Role for Design | October 24
Following the conversations held at the UN General Assembly’s Summit for Refugees and the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development’s Habitat III, panelists will discuss best design practices for integrating migrant and refugee populations within existing urban contexts.
Monumental Lhasa Tour | October 26
Learn about the stories behind Lhasa’s unique monuments in this special tour led by curator Natasha Kimmet. This tour will highlight the multiple influences that shaped the Tibetan capital’s historic architectural landscape.
Alternativas / Alternatives Exhibition Opening | October 27
The Thirteenth Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, “Alternativas / Alternatives”, features 22 jury-selected projects completed between January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2015 by contemporary Spanish architects. Visitors will also find 20 shortlisted projects, large-scale image displays, audiovisual commentary, drawing reproductions, and models.
Pumpkitecture! Pumpkin Carving Contest | October 28
It's the Center for Architecture's first annual pumpkin-carving competition! Get in the Halloween spirit as you witness 20 NYC-based architecture firms go gourd-to-gourd to compete for the coveted Pritzker Pumpkin.
Building of the Day: Japan Society | October 29
Tour the first building designed by a leading Japanese architect in NYC. Designed by architects Junzo Yoshimura and George G. Shimamoto, the building opened to the public in 1971 and was designated a NYC landmark in 2011.
The Reports of My Death have Been Greatly Exaggerated: Libraries for the Future | October 29
Once upon a time, people were convinced that libraries and books would disappear as society grew more digitized. And yet, libraries are still flourishing and are evolving — but not without its many challenges. This symposium will feature two panels who will discuss “The Library in Civic Life” and “The Architecture and Spatial Design of Libraries”.
Open Poll: Redesigning the Voter Experience Flash Competition | October 29
“How can poll centers be more visible and welcoming in cities and neighborhoods, and incentivize voter turnout?” This flash competition invites the public to watch design teams present their proposals and vote for their favorite. Design and election experts will judge the entries and announce a winner by the end of the event.
Building of the Day: The Battery | October 30
After 22 years, the redesign of NYC's historic Battery is more than 90 percent complete. Quennell Rothschild & Partners was part of the team leading The Battery’s transformation from an asphalt-intensive Moses-era park into a verdant oasis.
AIANY Around Manhattan Architecture Tour | October 31
Conclude Archtober with a 2.75-hour boat tour circumnavigating the island of Manhattan. This tour is general enough for visitors yet detailed enough for locals. Cruise under all of Manhattan's 18 bridges while taking in a scenery of monuments, architecture, parks, and infrastructure.
