Richard Rogers wins the ULI 2015 J.C. Nichols Prize
Richard Rogers won the Urban Land Institute's prestigious J.C. Nichols Prize in honor of his and his firm's longtime dedication to top-notch community designing. Rogers will be presented with the prize during the ULI Europe Conference in February.
Meet Pelletier de Fontenay, the 2015 Phyllis Lambert Grant winner
Emerging Montreal-based practice Pelletier de Fontenay recently won the 2015 Phyllis Lambert Grant for their project "Architectures de la nature captive", a spin-off to their winning collaborative proposal in the Insectarium Metamorphosis competition earlier this year.
The Library of Varna in Bulgaria reveals the winning proposals for their new home
The 130-year Library of Varna institution, which boasts over 860,000 items in its collection, has long been spread out in six different buildings throughout the Bulgarian city of Varna. In the end of the competition, Netherlands-based Architects for Urbanity won the contract to design the new library.
A look at the winning ideas for a Krakow lung cancer care center
Krakow is yet another city dealing with concerning levels of air pollution — and the inevitable health problems that result from it. Launched by competition organizers Bee Breeders (f.k.a. HMMD Competitions), the open competition sought the most innovative design ideas for a lung cancer care center. (Pictured: 1ST PLACE: Nima Nian, Behdad Heydari from Iran.)
A quick rundown on the Europan 13 results
Young architects and professionals under 40 participating in Europan 13 had to respond to the theme: "The Adaptable City: Self-Organization – Sharing – Project (Process)", which addresses a variety of pressing social and economic issues going on in European cities, while also working toward sustainable development and adaptability.
Vote now for your favorite 2015 Art of Building photography finalist!
Public online voting opened on December 18 for the Art of Building, the biggest architectural photography competition of its kind. Until January, people can vote for their favorite finalist photo to determine the overall winner. To say the least, the photos are stunning.
