Sesame Street was a HUGE influence on me as a child - I desperately longed to live in a downtown with stoops and walking to my friends' houses. (The Ruth Chew books, about witches in Prospect Park, fueled that longing.).
Sadly Orange Is The New Black seems like a good indicator of where lots of people will be living in coming years.
The cart is leading the horse. People try to live up to the artificial "standards" they see on tv, and advertising convinces them that they are inadequate if they don't.
