Kvareli Wine Club

The project territory of Kvareli Wine Club is located in Kvareli, Kakheti region, Georgia. The project includes a hotel, wine cellar, vineyards, and valleys covered with wilderness. The territory is divided into zones without any significant interconnection or unifying structure.

The shape of the dried-up stream located throughout the project area resembles a circular stain. The circle as a symbol of the place becomes the general concept of the project. Stream bed, without any significant intervention with the natural environment, is turned into the walking track that serves as the central circulation path of the master plan simplifying the perception of the environment and granting easy access to different parts of the territory.

During the first stage of the concept development, the color of the new intervention has been defined -  turquoise, the widely regarded color in viticulture. This color became a tool to create a contrast with the existing environment and, at the same time, unite every new function and intervention.

Typical historical-vernacular traditions of the region, which correspond to the principles of modern regenerative agriculture,  heavily influenced the program of functions. One example of both traditional and modern regenerative agriculture is using animals such as sheep to control the level of grass in vineyards.

By analyzing the existing pattern on the land the concept involves an imaginary grid that distributes the functions all over the area. The program functions are distributed on the intersection points of the grid. While choosing the exact place of the function the zoning and natural resources present in the area were taken into account. The blank intersection points left in the grid provide the possibility of the future functional development of the project.

After distributing the new functions and developing the existing zones the master plan consists of 7 main zones: the winery, valley, wine-growing, farming, fruit-growing, personnel, and parking zones.

Considering the possible opportunities of the project and synthesizing planned activities, the place creates the possibility to become a participant in regenerative agriculture. After implementing the developed master plan one can actively get involved in activities such as making handmade compotes from the locally picked fruit, cooking with local ingredients, gathering grapes in the vineyard, etc.

The Kvareli Wine Club territory also includes a hotel, which before the renovation consisted of guest rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a conference hall, a bowling room, a billiard room, a tennis court, and a wine therapy spa.

In order to launch the existing hotel with a renewed development concept, it was necessary to create new functions and change the existing planning, which ensures the proper connection of the new program and functions.

Added features include elements such as a new, additional restaurant space located adjacent to the existing restaurant on the forest side. A staircase that connects the new building with the outdoor pool, and pool bar and at the same time serves as an evacuation facility. The entrance to the hotel reception, which, upon entering the hotel, leads the guest to the reception.

The formulation of the design concept of the listed new elements is based on the maximum preservation of the existing materials, minimal intervention in the existing architectural composition and at the same time emphasizing the implemented intervention with sharp accents, which is expressed through the selected materials, shape and color range.

The interior design concept of the hotel envisages the formation of cozy and at the same time diverse private and common spaces for the vacationer. MUA team's main challenge was to preserve as much of the existing materials as possible in the hotel's common gathering spaces. Therefore, the design language is formed by the synthesis of existing and proposed materials that create an elegant contrast and a kind of harmonious environment in the existing building.

The main spaces resulting from combining the hotel's existing and new functions are the reception area, which includes check-in, meeting, and workspace. A restaurant where the bar and breakfast spaces are separated from each other through color and shape accents. Hotel rooms, the solution of which is based on the combination of simple, natural, elegant color and form. The wine cellar, in which the collection of wine bottles is stored, is made of natural wood material and stainless steel. In the gathering space of the wine bank, an environment is created with contrasting materials and colors, in which the guests have the opportunity to taste the wine of the presented collections.

Along with the hotel, there is a winery in the territory of Kvareli Eden. The interior of the factory is divided into functional zones, which allow visitors to clearly experience the Kakhetian traditions of winemaking.

From the main entrance of the wine club, MUA team move to the reception, from where they can get to the storage of pitchers, the hall of lecterns, and then to the partners' space, where there is an open winemaking space, a distillery, storage spaces for containers and bottles, the interior of which is designed to reflect the culture of winemaking.
