This design project investigates the possibilities of regaining possession of an urban void in the heart of Rome. The aims of the project are many - to address the architectural relationship between the new facilities and their historic and archeological context, to consider scale and massing of the facilities in relation to the existing adjacent fabric, to seek integration among the different vertical levels and historical layers of the site, to create a route of public access into the site and a provision of public spaces, and to conceive the expression and internal organization of the facilities as a cultural institution within both the city and surrounding district.
