Dar Islam Mosque

Most places of worship serve local communities and congregations, and many require complexes like those of other multi-faceted institutions. The program for a mosque is relatively simple, but the challenge is not. The motivating forces for space, form, and experience should privilege qualities over quantities, and spirit over function. A deep sense of possibility should transcend an imposition of the limits of reality on the perception of users, and the blindness caused by the perceptions of realities in the models that we usually find around us. Located in a desert landscape, this project looks to nature to inform the design process.
