Belkin

Belkin, a leading manufacturer and supplier of audio/visual desktop and mobility accessories, has a striking mission statement: “We create products that help people…and make people’s lives better, easier and more fulfilling.” Such were Kamus + Keller’s goals in transforming this second generation space into a simply sophisticated workplace for Belkin’s employees.

This dual-phased project began with Belkin’s first floor lab and data center, a challenge that required savvy technological planning. Hundreds of electrical and computer components occupy the 7,800 SF area, so establishing proper airflow was vital to combating potential overheating. Additionally, specialized isolation chambers needed to be constructed, “sound boxes” used to test Belkin’s complex wireless devices without any physical or auditory corruption. The utilitarian space doesn’t lack personality, however, as pops of bold blue bring a contrasting softness to the room’s hard angularity.

Upstairs, the 37,300 SF creative office space presented its own unique challenge: Belkin absorbed another company during the planning phase, so great consideration was taken in designing an office in which both cultures felt comfortable and unified. Breakout spaces throughout feature casual seating and large whiteboards, encouraging interaction and collaboration. Sleek individual workstations help support employee privacy and focus, while the lowered partitions provide a warmer, open office feel. The space’s most commanding element is the dynamic sheet metal installation at reception, a memorable visual nod to the company’s high standing in the technology industry.
