Program: Restaurant I Area: 2,500 SF I Location: Los Angeles, California I Client: Withheld I Status: Completed June 2024

ZOZO is a 2,500 SF restaurant that was designed to sit within Maison Midi, an existing retail space in central Los Angeles. The restaurant seats 80 diners inside and 40 more as part of an outdoor/sidewalk dining area. The seating is organized along a trio of centrally located banquettes with the ‘tablescape’ retail elements ringing the seating.

he food is inspired by the globe’s equatorial countries while the design, coex-isting within Maison Midi, presents an historic envelope to house a visual survey of interesting glasses, utensils, and china, creating a celebration of the table. The existing buildings bow-string trusses were exposed to create a large open space while the composition of the walls was viewed as building a ‘tablescape’ within the space. The restaurant’s most distinctive decorative element is the mural painted in front by artist T Mac that pays homage to legendary chefs Jean Bertranou and Patricia Quintana and the artist Georgia O’Keeffe.
