Client: Withheld | Program: 4 Unit Multifamily Housing | Location: Pasadena, California | Site Area: 6,250 SF | Building Area: 7,710 SF
The proposed project is a 4 unit townhome style multi-family residential with a cluster of 2 units per building. The project will replace an existing non-conforming convenience store/market and a small residential building. The proposed structure sits within a neighborhood of 1 to 3 story buildings, which is consistent with the scale of the neighboring architecture. There is currently a mix of single-family residences and multi-family residences in the area.
The building is intended to both blend with the neighborhood and will serve as a catalyst for the revitalization the area.
The building massing and style references Pasadena historic architecture using a regional take on modernism. We have utilize natural wood veneer, clear and bronze aluminum panels and windows to contrast with smooth white cement plaster. The clear and bronze metal panels along with the natural wood contribute human scale & detail which breaks up the overall length of the building façade. The colors & building materials utilize a neutral and natural color palate. Where appropriate we have utilized covered entryways to provide scale elements on the façade. The composition of window patterns reflects residential detailing in design and placement of the openings.
Materials and formal composition of the townhomes will work to break down the scale of the buildings and to express units as building blocks within the composition, instead of large singular apartment blocks
