The architecture of a sustainable 14,000sf retail and office building in Northern New Jersey is conceived with both the user and the environment in mind. The warm cedar cladding nestles this modern steel and glass structure within the suburban wooded site. The light-filled retail spaces feature eighteen foot ceilings and mezzanines. Above, the curved office facade looks out on its sedum-planted roof terrace and reservoir views beyond. A vertical green trellis extends from the building sheltering a pedestrian walkway, while photovoltaic panels are arrayed horizontally on the soaring flat roof. Approved by the Borough Planning Board, this project is to be the linchpin of the new “Green Broadway Corridor,” located at the entrance to the Borough’s business district. The vertical green trellis serves as a literal and figurative billboard for the new sustainable initiative. From a detail level to an urban level, 62 Broadway Plaza projects a modern sustainable vision soon to shape New Jersey’s landscape.
