Bucelas House

The project for a single family house, located in Bucelas, near Loures, it is assumed as a huge challenge. Not often we have the chance to intervene in contexts like this, a unique landscape, virtually untouched from human intervention, with an amazing natural beauty of the surroundings. All these factors underline the degree of responsibility for the design options.
The volume and shape of the building emerge from a concept strongly influenced by the immediate environment, expressed by irregular relief by shifting gaps found along the ground as well as the extensive and beautiful view over the valley, with the vineyards of Bucelas as a backdrop. The building is assumed as a fragmented composition, stretching across the land, in an asymmetrical way, following the ground irregularities, allowing it to multiply and diversify the views over the surrounding landscape.
The fragmentation of volumes intended to be an escape from a unit volume, too dense, searches a more fluid and organic building, that does not change the original configuration of the site. Thus, the proposal is formally presented as a set of irregular volumes, which overlap, are divided and are complemented with several contrasts between gaps.
