The project consists of saving, renovating and extending a single family house, with the objective of conversion to a country inn, in Armamar, District of Viseu in Portugal. The building, formerly used as a family house, was found with some degree of degradation, mainly due to several hasty interventions over the years, which damaged some of its original features. The proposal sought to preserve and rehabilitate some of the fundamental characteristics of the building, adapting to the new program space and recovering the original granite stone facade and the structural elements in wood.
Seeking to promote the use of outdoor spaces, it is proposed the addition of two volumes on weathering steel, a new balcony overlooking the contemplation of the surrounding landscape and a volume of support services to the pool. The building is organized on two floors. The social area in the ground floor comprises a kitchen, dining room and two lounges. Upstairs is a private area with six double rooms with private toilets.
