anyone have any idea on how to control the scale of a view in google earth or maps precisely?
i'm trying to make up some 1:1 comparisons between various cities, and it'd be nice to be able to capture aerial views of different places at the same scale factor.... yet google maps seems to be a little "off"
i was working on a model of detroit and they were trying to get me to upload onto their server...haha.... i was trying to sell it to them...google has a shit load of cash bty...... why would i give something to them....
I had this problem a while ago. Maybe you should look into some real GIS software like FWTools? Needless to say, it's much more complicated than Google Earth, and you need to be able to find OGR files of the cities. I found some nice 600Mb datasets of european urban morphological zones at European Environment Agency but perhaps you're looking for other places?
it's a map of european urban zones, so not on neighbourhood level as i was hoping. More detailed maps (1:20 000) can be found on the following website:

i also have a GE question - how do you save the 3d models of LA, NYC, etc?
