Yeah thats the prof that I met with when I visited. He is the former dean of the school. Super nice guy. A lot of the grad students TA for him. That is the guy I would be asking about TA stuff if I were to end up in Austin.

Apparently that class is one of the most popular classes at UT and the whole idea behind that class is brilliant. You offer an intro to architecture class open to any major so everyone can learn about, and begin to understand the importance of, architecture. Then the students either want to become architects like OD86 or will most likely hire an architect later in life when they have a more lucrative career.

cpnorris - I hope you are right. They told me the same thing in general over the phone.

UT would be a perfect fit for sure.

jason - there is a lot of opportunity there for sure. however, they won't just hand you a TA position, you have to talk with professors and make that happen but it shouldn't be hard. A co-worker of mine went to UT and she TA'd every semester after her first semester. She was a TA for Larry Speck too. He would be a good person to start with.

congratulations mctwist!! that was your first choice right?

Yup, a friend of mine got a full scholarship from UT Austin a few years back. So I imagine they are quite generous with their money if they really want you.

I'd be curious to know what causes some years to be ultra-competitive and some years not so much. Are economic factors at work (more people heading back to school when the economy is facing a downturn), or is the whole process becoming steady more competitive year after year as kristin_kai implies? Or is it just a random fluke?

Speculate away...

I am in Houston, Texas.

MFs. I even went up there over vacation to check out surrounding areas for housing and schools for my daughter. Shit, I watched to New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade from right across the street.

I still think my current boss sabotaged my application with a bad rec (disguised as a mediocre rec to seem genuine). Actually I know he did; I snuck a peek at the rec. Ahole. I'm going to deck him.

Did I mention I just had two margaritas?

Ouch, that sucks... I almost asked my current boss for a recommendation, but decided against it for that same reason. Also, if my bosses had written some letters for me, they're the type who would then hang it over me and guilt-trip me into working 80 hours of unpaid overtime.

yeah I think I'll totally get my Yale rejection tomorrow.

sci-arc needs to hurry the hell up! anyone m.arch 1'ers heard sciarc news yet?

Man, LIG, nothing yet? That's bullshit.

Tell you what. If it would make you feel any better, I'll rent a van and buy a couple of ski masks and we'll go take care of business.

Ooh! Excellente' with a capital apostrophe! I just realized I have three more bottles of Shiner Kolsch in the fridge left over from last night. I'm going to drink them and watch "Sideways" again. That sucker company is paying for the hotel again tonight so I might as well take advantage of it.
