Architectural Terminology

guiggster

This is a rather general thread title...just in case someone wants to expand on this topic later. Right now I'm wondering about different types of models and their names. For example, I know a 'mass model' generally is made to show...mass and is often times cut from a solid block, like styrofoam, though I imagine that it doesn't have to be. And perhaps a 'sketch model' is used to show the relationship between positive and negative space. But can someone expand on this and perhaps include the many different model types, their purpose, and any other relevant info regarding the terminology?

Or is there a good website with such explanations?

(On a side note, does anyone know what guage a thick black modeling wire of about 1/16th inch diameter would be, and what it's called or what type of metal it is?)
