How about production design in film? Always a dream of mine.

art director is a pretty vague term....but sure. I'd love to move more into motion graphics - combine a little 3D, a little film, a little this and that, and get paid for it.
Might as well aim for creative director, eh?

one of my dreams is to be an art director for a magazine. or a stylist. but i'm okay with my job for now.

art director -- kind of like a project manager in the media world? or graphic consultant? or visionary who defines an aesthetic guideline?

mintcar, something like that...

I am currently a "creative director / designer" for a resort developer. My responsibilities include everything from company imaging/branding to conceptual architectural design. Our project management team consists of 3 people; an engineer, a business development specialist, and myself.

Other responsibilities include working with our web marketing firm (consultants) to ensure that our vision is articulated properly on our website, editing our web copy, and selecting, creating or commissioning artwork for the site etc. The project is moving quickly, and at each stage, my responsibilities change...

but, to respond to the initial post by arch to be?...

I am not doing this instead of architecture, but in order to be a better architect in the future.

good goal, SuperHeavy.
That's one arena where architectin' skills will get well used + the working environment is just more interesting than most arch firms. I'll be a bit of a broken record, but I'll refer you to the work of someone like Ken Adam of many James Bond films - now that was creativity + some serious fun. Not to mention $$$$ (or pounds).

sure...those are kind-of what my responsibilities are now too - some architecture, lots of graphics and branding, lot of 3d sculpture etc.

For me i find it more interesting than working in a regular architecutre office, and it pays better too, but i know i can never get my IDP requirements done if i keep working here

ya, IDP was a big sacrifice for me too, but the experience that I'm getting is one in a million...and the pay is better...

also, I am fortunate to have a local network of friends all in their first out of school internships, so i can live my previously desired arch-intern life vicariously through them...for now anyway.

been there, done that. creative director and art director and I did an issue for K10k.net and have been linked...architecture is much more fun though...I can use all the abilities picked up in my past/current professions and extend them exponentially. yippee!
