more confused danes...

jakke

I´m considering applying for a graduate program (arch) in the U.S,
I have been looking at Harvard and Columbia, but really only because they are one of the few schools that I know of... Both school seems really good (are they?), but are there any other schools i should check out before I go rop a bank to get the money?

Ofcourse it all depends on what kind of architecture i want to do.. to fill you in I work and love the stuff we do at www.plot.dk

well, since you enjoy the work at plot, then i'd imagine you would feel very much at home in harvard's gund hall which is a stepped building (similar to many of the designs that plot has proposed). that's probably not much help, but i am not sure what else to tell you.

what is it that you would hope to learn by studying in the us (instead of staying in europe)?

jakke, you might want to spend some time on the school blogs posted on this site (see the list of topics to the left). many american schools are represented there and if you see something you like you could email the student directly. i'm sure they'd could help answer our questions.

Well..Seems like Bush is a nice guy...No really I just want to try living in a different country,(english talking) I guess there are good schools all over the world, I´m just trying to find the best school in the country I´m moving to...

Jakke -

If you haven't already, you should look at the Fulbright grants to the US. I think they gave out about 50 awards to Danes studying in the states this past year.

hi Jakke and Per,
I just returned from copenhagen, and really enjoyed my time. The school of architecture is incredible - an enclave of single storey industrial buildings organized around lawns. I also have a new appreciation for the use of wood. It's used everywhere and in clever ways - endgrain, veneer, stretched into double-curvature surfaces, juxtaposed in finish and colour.
And the royal family has a yacht that is right over the top.

Hi jakke - I'm not sure how much Danes receive for the award. But if you send an email to someone at the office I'm sure they'll get back to you - they're very quick with responses. Alternatively, I'm sure you could set up a meeting with someone over there...
