ok kids i am putting together a mix of great summertime songs and mungo jerry's "in the summertime" right on top of the list. what would you put on your summertime mix? warning: bob seger's "night moves" will appear on mine.
"Doctor My Eyes" - Jackson Browne, "Sunshine Sunshine" - James Taylor, "Who Loves the Sun?" - The Velvet Underground, "Queen Bitches" -David Bowie and "Ocean Man" - Ween
since the 80s are back again, you GOTTA have the dj jazzy jeff and fresh prince song.
'summer' by war is also a great nugget. mellow track...
i'd skip the eddie cochran or who versions of 'summertime blues' and go for the crunching guitar mess of the version by blue cheer.
oh, and now you got me started...
'i can see clearly now'
'good vibrations'
'where's summer b?' - ben folds
'mozambique' - dylan
'let's live it up' - brian setzer orchestra
'ridin' on the back' - francis dunnery
'you make me feel so young' - frank, of course
'big mouth blues' - gram parsons
'let me have it all' - either by joe henry or sly stone's original
'kiss of life' - peter gabriel
'alphabet st' & 'gett off' - prince
'handshake drugs' & 'i'm always in love' - wilco
'summertime [ufo remix]' - sarah vaughn from verve remixed
'i just wanna have something to do' - ramones or the cover by garbage
i've had beck's 'hell yes' in constant rotation in my car. can't get enough of that one.
Oh, no, vado, say it ain't so....Bob Seger?!? Every one of his songs ends with the same chord and title lyric over and over and over and over....he is one artist who always prompts me to turn my radio off as fast as I can reach it.
How about:
"Sunshine" - World Party
"Sunrise Sunrise" - Norah Jones
and of course
"Take Me Home Country Roads" - Toots and the Maytalis
My friend the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV
I don't have digital
I don't have diddly squat
It's not having what you want
It's wanting what you've got
[CHORUS:]
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that)
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up o I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I've got a crummy job
It don't pay near enough
To buy the things it takes
To win me some of your love
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe i am crazy too
[CHORUS]
I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me
Don't have no master suite
I'm still the king of me
You have a fancy ride, but baby
I'm the one who has the key
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe I am crazy too
[CHORUS]
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Got my 45 on
So I can rock on.
"woman from tokyo" - deep purple
"panama" or "chained" - van halen
"cruel summer" - bananarama

"la la love you" - pixies
"mountain song" - janes addiction
"1987" or "eardrum buzz" - wire
"djobi djoba" - gypsy kings (i know, i know)
i think that "woman from tokayo" which is an excellent tune

"Steal my sunshine" -- Len
"Starry Eyed Surprise" -- Oakenfold

not per correll- we have the same record collection. blue cheer i had that record man.
that list was what i pulled out of the catalog that i've bothered to save onto my computer. same record collection? you must have GREAT taste, vado.
first had blue cheer's 'summertime blues' on 45. then on a vinyl greatest hits compilation. now, yes, on cd as well as on my computer.
i remember that the flip side of the 45 was a whacked psyche-out called 'out of focus'. brilliant. i made sure it was on the cd.

ah ha, if you're going with Cheap Trick be sure to include "She's Tight" - what a sexy sweet song that is!
"must be somebody's baby" - jackson browne
'Just Another Day' - Too Short - Get In Where You Fit In'
(actually that whole album is gold)
'Pets' - Porno for Pyros - self titled
'Tahitian Moon' - Porno for Pyros - Good Gods Urge
hmmmm...that's all i got at the moment
