Where do you think Apple will take it's ipod next and what improvements would you like to see? I ask this because in Chicago, every architect has an iPod (I realize this is a generalization and if you're from chicago and don't have one, I don't really care...) and they just came out with the new picture Ipod. Just wondering.
I think Apple will eventually start to merge into the cellphone business. Another possible avenue would be Satellite radio. I personally would love to have an Ipod like unit hooked up into the Sirius network. I've been holding off on getting an ipod for awhile, but the picture Ipod may soon be my first. I like the idea of loading my pictures up on it while traveling. Maybe it’s just me, but the curvaceous accessories are getting on my nerves.
Ludwig,
wired feature some a USB link that links two usb devices (such as a camera and a hard drive) I wonder if this sort of device would work with an ipod?

have a look at the latest iriver hard drive player.
it had the colour screen for photos, serves as a usb host (so photos from a camera, or any other usb device can be transfered direct) and it came out like 6 months ago. The battery lasts longer, its less expensive than an ipod, etc etc...but everyboyd loves a style icon. Sheesh.
Adding more "features" to ipod is a mistake. This is the same gimmick cell phone makers have pulled. They have added cameras, pda's, games, color screens, rigntones, web browsers, even mp3 players but have hardly made any improvements in the past 10 years to the one thing that's most important on a phone...call quality. Apple could end up getting in trouble if they don't work on improving ipod's music playing capabilities. It hasn't been very friendly toward accomodating new and competing file formats. Of course, adding more file formats won't boost sales among the average joe out there.
I just bought an Iriver this weekend. one from the h300 series. i am still waiting for it to arrive. I know that is ugly, but like dolemite writes, I can empty my 1GB card straight from the digital camera into the device. Also I bought it because what I was really looking for was an mp3 recorder. The iriver records from fm radio (included), and from its own microphone, but you can also plug in an external microphone for better quality recordings.
If the ipod came with this extra capacity I would have gone for it, specially now that the dollar is on the floor at almost 2 US$ per 1 british £. But I read many bad reviews about the Voice Recorder acessories for the ipod, also the ipod seem to record only i mono and the iriver in stereo, well I can confrim later when I get it.
iPod / Sirius Satellite Radio Rumor
"...From Apple's point of view an iPod Satellite would certainly offer a unique high end feature that would trump the FM radios found in a number of competing units. Some pundits have been listing XM and Delphi's latest MyFi portable satellite radio as an iPod competitor, but it is not an MP3 player. The iPod Satellite could be the first to converge both technologies."
If you give it another month, Brian, I heard a little rumor that in February they're going to release another color-screen model, this time in partnership with Pay-per-view.
..."A podcast is a radio show that listeners subscribe to online. Every time a new program is posted, it automatically feeds into the subscriber’s computer. From there, the listener zaps it onto a digital music player and hits the road: Think of it as TiVo for your MP3 player.
Speaking of battery...my 3g ipod is 10 mo. old and the battery is fuck3d! I am lucky if I get 3hours out of it (just listening, no fiddling with the wheel) I never got more than 6hours to begin with...and yes I have all the latest software...wiped it clean and re-started fresh...etc.
I am seriously thinking of looking elsewhere for an mp3 player.
i could see ipod moving into the realm of video. in five years ipods will be able to store hundreds of gigs. just imagine, your entire dvd collection on one portable device...
Ipod Direction

You can only put the pictures in the ipod via a computer, it would be nice if this could be done straight from the camera into the ipod.
What about bluetooth to share music between ipods?
I am not in chicago but I dont have an ipod either by the way.

HA HA. brian I left you a note in your blog.
Put a frigging camera in it and make it come with a bottle opener. :)
I heard that it will soon come with a built-in camera and video conference capability.
I'd like to see them have direct internet access, download right into the iPod from anywhere, if my damn Sprint phone can, why not my iPod?
