This project encompasses the combination and complete renovation of two units on the top floor of Mies van der Rohe's Commonwealth Plaza overlooking both Lincoln Park and the 'Urban Prairie' of Chicago opening to the west. The duality of the verdant park and bustling cityscape is reflected in two contrasting material programs. Mies' rigorous geometry is counter-balanced by a collection of freestanding volumes floating free of the perimeter walls.
