KAHN architecture was commissioned to execute the modernization and restoration of a through-block arcade style lobby located in the Garment District. Built in 1924, the design includes renewing the building’s frontages while blending history with contemporary materials and finishes on the interior. Neoclassical forms with attention paid to decorative details, common in garment and jewelry making, preserve a sense of history. Laser-cut steel wall cladding backlit by LED’s brings attention to the filigree pattern. A vaulted rosette stamped tin ceiling was exposed and refurbished to its original grace.
