David H. Koch Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital

The design of NYPACC focuses on creating generous public spaces while articulating the building envelope to give appropriate expression to the center’s mission.

The public experience through the building feels generously open despite the dense programmatic requirements. Patients arriving from either York Avenue or the drive through enter a spacious, light-filled lobby, with unobstructed paths to a centrally located reception desk and self-registration kiosks. From here, patients can proceed to elevators which provide access to the clinical floors. Clinical support spaces are patient focused, efficient, and flexible to accommodate future technologies and changes in patient care.

Within the 40-foot-high space of the lobby, the level 2 mezzanine above the drive-through provides a generous multipurpose gathering space offering food service and a direct connection to the adjoining Wellness Center. From this level an open stair invites access to the more intimate upper mezzanine on level 3, with a comfortable “living room” for patients and their families.
