The 945,000 SF Getty Center houses analytical and conservation labs supporting preservation efforts of cultural environments, historic sites, and works of art from around the world. The Getty Conservation Institute (80,000 SF) has advanced labs for analysis of material deterioration under various environmental stresses to develop conservation protocols. The J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center in Los Angeles houses European paintings, drawings, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and photography from its beginnings to the present, gathered internationally. The J. Paul Getty Museum (36,000 SF) has studios for conservation and handling of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts; the Research Institute for the History of Art & Humanities (201,000 SF) has photographic and graphic art studios supporting a 840,000 volume library and multidisciplinary center.
Home to the J. Paul Getty Museum and other programs of the J. Paul Getty Foundation, the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California, is the first facility to gain certification through the official and balloted version of the LEED for Existing Buildings® (LEED-EB) Rating System. The certification was presented during the International Facility Managers Association Best Practices Forum, held at the Getty Center on February 14 and 15, 2005. The Getty Center was designed by Richard Meier & Partners Architects, LLP, and constructed between 1984 and 1997.
