Studying at UIC always has had this overtone of urban planning. You do alot of site analysis and "spatial" studies that, after 6 years sometimes feel daunting and drab. Perhaps it is for good reason in the long run, especially for those settled into the big city, to build a general awareness of this thing they always call "fabric." Now granted that doesnt translate practically into the type of practice where you are in the office stamping documents and drafting up details, dealing with contracts etc. Maybe the cunning sinister intent is to shape the character, our character as human beings in the way we live through making at least a greater percent of the population responsive and then responsible for our environement as a whole?
...or maybe not. =)
