Pierce College Academic West Building
- The Pierce College academic west building Design Build competition that I participated in my currently employer, in which I was involved in the early stages of massing and layout design.
- The owners requested a building at the intersection of the two axes of ac community college, which contains the Department of Architecture, Design Media, the Public Classroom, and the School Administration Office. All buildings on campus are in the Mediterranean architectural style, which requires to be continued at the lowest cost.
- Overall, the building continues the style of the original building of the campus, at the intersection of the axis, there is a two-storey entrance lobby, and the campus broadcast center, which is a gray box. To the main pedestrian belt of the campus, arcade and gallery are arranged, where the elevation is a relatively flat and ceremonial interface, in the east-west axis of the campus, we lay out active and staggered interfaces along different heights, combined with ramps and platforms, hoping that this interface can generate more interaction and exchange between students in different major.
The entire space is organized through two yards, considering that the Department of Architecture and Design media, Modeling, exhibition, and communication are two basic daily requirements, but the space of model production is relatively messy and not suitable for displ and communication, so we separate the two spaces and arrange the space around these two courtyards. The relatively quiet space is close to the gallery and office, while the more active space surrounds the Making spaces and Classrooms.
