Honor description: Competition Finalist. Architecture for Humanity New York 2014 Design Competition. In collaboration with New York Cares and The Expeditionary Learning School for Community Leaders, Architecture for Humanity New York launched GARNISH: A Culinary Lab & Arts Studio Competition.
The Expeditionary Learning School for Community Leaders serves grades 9-12, the school has a diverse cultural population that speaks over 22 different languages. Principal David O’Hara and staff have created a safe and supportive learning environment for their students utilizing a C.R.E.W. teaching system.
The school was looking to expand its Fine Arts programs including a renovated Culinary Lab and a new Fine Art Studio within an existing classroom space. Competition participants needed to employ creativity for this fast paced competition. The winning project and all finalists' projects were all on display at a AfHny hosted event in April of 2014.
The winning design was constructed before the start of the 2014/2015 school year thru the funding and support of New York Cares and their volunteers.
